Prep Your Home for Sale with These Spring Tips

Springtime Tips for Home Sale - The Tuttle Group

When you’re getting ready to sell your home, there are a few tips to help you. When your home presents better, it makes it easier to attract buyers. Since spring is the best time to put your home on the market, consider getting everything ready now.

Remove the Clutter
Walk into any model home or open house and look at how clean and organized they are. There is not a lot of “stuff” around because it is a distraction from the actual features of the home. Consider getting rid of a few different items or at least pack them away:

  • Bills
  • Magazines
  • Children’s artwork
  • Dog toys
  • Shoes by the door

You want your home to be the best version of itself. Look at shelves and surfaces and put away anything that doesn’t serve an actual purpose.

Make Home Improvements
You don’t need to get involved in major home renovations when your putting your home on the market. However, there may be some improvements that you have been meaning to get to. Replace caulk in your kitchen and bathroom. Change out switch plates that may be broken. Paint your front door and around the corners of your home where dirty fingerprints have collected over the years.

Any minor repairs that you can complete yourself should be done. Your goal is to make your home look clean, in good repair, and welcoming. Anything old and rusted (door knobs, fan blades, etc.) should be replaced if you can afford it.

Focus on Curb Appeal
Some buyers will keep driving if they don’t like the look of the home from the curb. You want to get people in the door. Focus on ways to improve the look of the home from the outside. Mow your lawn diagonally so that it looks more substantial. Add some fresh plants to the front and pull weeds.

Stand outside your home and look at what you see. Consider pressure washing the driveway and even the garage door.

Clean Up
Once you know people will be visiting, clean up the floors to a high gloss. Give everything a gentle wipe down so that the counters are pristine. You should also shake out the welcome mat.

It’s a good idea to bake some cookies or light a candle, too. When your home smells more inviting, people will be able to envision it as their own. You don’t want the smell of dogs or children’s sweaty gym clothes scaring a potential buyer away from your home.

By following a few spring tips, you can get your home ready to put on the market. When more people like what they see, it will also make it easier to get offers closer to what you’re asking on the home.
