It’s State Fair of Texas time!

Autumn weather calls for three great things: family, corn dogs, and college football. The State Fair of Texas tradition has continued consecutively every year since 1886, and could easily be the happiest time of the year for everyone. The excitement always begins the last weekend of September, and runs through mid-late October.

It isn’t a tradition to visit the State Fair if food wasn’t involved. You can always count on corny dogs, turkey legs, frito pies, sausage on a stick, and funnel cakes, not to mention the countless fried concoctions but this year has a whole new taste to it. Competition Kitchen is an opportunity for local home chefs to compete their culinary works of art in different categories. Not only local home chefs will be cooking up food, celebrity chefs come in and offer exquisite foods and give cooking tips for your own kitchen! This year offers fair-goers some interesting options – from the Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger to Pinot Noir Popcorn, there is certainly something for everyone’s taste buds! Check out the list of 2017’s Big Tex Choice Award Winners and Finalists. If this isn’t enough, head over to the wonderful beer and wine gardens for a taste of local and international crafted beers and wines.

If college football is your passion, the State Fair of Texas welcomes football fans for the classic Prairie View A&M University v. Grambling State University game on Saturday, October 7th and the iconic Red River Showdown between longtime rivals the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, October 14th. Neither games ever disappoint!

Several nights during the State Fair, there is a musical artist that performs at the Chevrolet Main Stage. Check out this year’s line up and schedule, and get in to see acts including Wilson Phillips, Pat Green, Daya, Charlie Daniels Band, and much much more!
